Saint Maurice, Martyr of Faith and Courage
On this day, 22 September each year, we celebrate the festival of Saint Maurice… where we recall a man from the city of Tiba in Egypt… He was the commander of a legion made up of Christian soldiers. In the third century, Maurice and his comrades were sent to the Alps. And in Agown, now known as the town of Saint-Maurice in the Valais canton of Switzerland… They refused to renounce their faith and were martyred because of their faithfulness to Christ. For us, Saint Maurice remains a witness to courage, faithfulness and faith. His witness calls us, even today, to place Christ at the heart of our choices and our lives.
Let us pray: Saint Maurice, you who gave your life for Christ, help us to remain faithful to our faith, to live with courage and confidence, and to bear witness to the Gospel to those around us.
