A living heritage, born in Mesopotamia

The Chaldean Catholic Church draws its origin from the very ancient Christian tradition of Mesopotamia, one of the first lands to be evangelised. Heir to the Church of the East, it entered into full communion with the Catholic Church in the sixteenth century, while preserving its own spiritual, liturgical and theological heritage.

It celebrates the faith in the Chaldean rite and keeps in its prayer the use of Aramaic, the language of Christ, a living sign of a two-thousand-year-old Christian heritage faithfully handed on from generation to generation.

What our logo says

The central cross, inspired by the cross of the Swiss flag, is joined to the glorious Eastern cross, symbol of the faith of the Chaldean Church. The colour red recalls both Switzerland and the witness of a martyr Church, faithful to Christ throughout history.

The red rays express the light and the hope of the Gospel, while the battlements at the base evoke the ancient walls of Babylon, the historical cradle of the Chaldean Church.

The inscription in four languages, Chaldean, Arabic, French and German, manifests the richness of its heritage and its presence within multilingual Switzerland.

This logo thus symbolises the union between the age-old roots of the Chaldean Church and its rootedness in Switzerland.

Our warm thanks to Father Douglas Bazi, priest of the Chaldean Church in New Zealand, for designing this logo, which expresses with simplicity and depth the identity of the Chaldean Church in Switzerland.
